Authority Control Processing
Ensure the integrity of your authority records.
Current, high-quality authority control gives your patrons precise searching and retrieval in the PAC. It also gives your staff the framework to effectively maintain your catalog. In partnership with Library Technologies Inc. (LTI), Polaris is pleased to offer authority control processing services to help you maintain your authority files. Polaris value-added services include data extraction and project scheduling, as well as oversight by Polaris staff familiar with your data and your ILS database. In addition, Polaris works directly with you to complete LTI's extensive data profile form, ensuring that you fully understand the work being done on your records and any costs associated with that work. Polaris will also re-index and reload your data upon completion of the authority control project to ensure a clean data-load. Standard LTI authority control processing services include name, series and subject authority control based on the Library of Congress (LC) name and subject authority databases. LC authority files include 6.7 million name authority (including series) and 298,000 subject authority records. These files are supplemented by 2 million LTI name, series and subject authority records for which no LC authority is available. Optional services through LTI include authority control over LC Children's, Sears, NLM MeSH, and selected genre subject headings.
